Community Liaison Catherine Mills

By Celia Blake - Neuro Endocrine Tumours (Nets)Member of CBC since 2019
After being told I had cancer, nothing else mattered.
It took over my whole platter, my plate was now full.
Grief filled my plate, hope it’s not too late.
The system just gave me the sharing of facts,
Left me grappling with uncertainty.
My life’s in a state of emergency!
What do I do? Where do I go? What am I hearing?
My head contracts, my heart just got smacked,
My heart is palpating.
I'm hearing, no real caring.
Taken through a system with no real structure,
No thought for my culture.
I went through the stages of grief: shock, anxiety, denial, anger.
Then came acceptance, which was harder to deal with, until I met CBC.
From the point of introduction, they gave me hope, and life gained direction.
Into understanding the disease,
Getting the right support and information which helps to ease the anxiety.
I'm not alone; they put on these groups that give you hope,
Where you meet others feeling the same way.
Dress your best, don't detest, and react appropriately.
This is just a test.
On reflection, I had no objection
To the second-rate treatment initially offered.
With CBC, they allow me to flex my knowledge
And bring hope into my reality.
The hope I feel, the joy CBC brings,
Helps to bring my future into reality.
Not planning to die but planning to live.
With their rapport, it’s a joy to support CBC.
Expecting performance without subjection.
Don't wait till you have cancer to become assertive—
Talk and ask questions.
That’s what CBC can assist with,
Creating a first-class service.
Living your life without the mystery,
Our history was bleak,
But in our future, we seek clarity,
Helped by the charity, CBC.
