About us
We’re UK non-profit charity organisation.
At Cancer Black Care (CBC), we believe that everyone, regardless of their background, deserves access to the best possible care and support when facing the challenges of cancer. Our emphasis (not exclusively) is to provide dedicated assistance to Black people and ethnic minority communities as they navigate the journey through cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.
Cancer Black Care or CBC, as it is known, was established in 1995 by Isaac Dweben, inspired by his older brother's battle with prostate cancer in 1992. Witnessing the lack of support his brother received during treatment, Isaac recognised the stigma surrounding cancer within his community. Motivated to make a difference, he founded CBC in 1995, opening the first support group, and the emphasis was to provide advice and assistance to Black and ethnic minority communities, later on, CBC had offices in Southwark, Brent, Hackney, Manchester and Birmingham.

Our Mission
Creating a Nurturing Community
Cancer knows no boundaries, and neither do we. Our purpose is to bridge the gap in cancer care by addressing the unique needs and disparities faced by Black people and ethnic minority communities. We are committed to:
- Cultural Sensitivity: We understand that cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic factors can influence how individuals experience cancer. We provide culturally sensitive resources, support, and information to ensure that every person receives personalised care that respects their traditions and beliefs.
- Accessible Support: We work tirelessly to eliminate barriers to cancer care for Black people and ethnic minority communities. Through advocacy and partnerships, we strive to ensure equitable access to screening, treatment, and support services.
- Education and Awareness: We empower individuals with knowledge about cancer prevention and early detection. We promote awareness for Black people and ethnic minority communities, emphasising the importance of regular screenings and healthy lifestyles.
- Emotional Support: A cancer diagnosis can be emotionally overwhelming. We offer a network of empathetic counsellors and support groups, creating a safe space for Black people and ethnic minority communities to share their experiences and find strength in one another.
- Advocacy: We advocate for policies that promote equitable healthcare access and outcomes.
